Sari and the working woman
My colleague M decided to wear the sari/saree today. She's looking gorgeous in a blue one. So naturally our discussion went into how many saris we have in our cabinets and how often we wear them. I've worn a sari to office maybe once in the last year that too because we decided to have an 'Ethnic Day' at office! My attitude is despicable. M though, manages to wear a sari many times to office just like how she manages to wear pants and skirts. All with equal ease and style.
I love the sari but just don't find that much time to drape it and accessorise it with the right paraphernalia in the morning rush. One may say I am simply making excuses, where there's a will there's a way, etc. but it's just not happening right now. But I make sure I wear one during special outings, functions and festivals.
Even though I do not wear a sari daily, I love sari shopping. Whenever I buy one for someone, I invariably end up buying one for myself :-) The thought is that I might decide to suddenly switch to a sari from a salwar and then all these treasures will be handy.
Shashi Tharoor in an article said "Save the sari" and I know there were a lot of negative comments from women. I personally don't think it will ever go out of fashion. It's a must in every Indian woman's wardrobe but only thing is if she's a working woman, she'll have to struggle to make the time...
Here's a picture that I found on the net that shows how to drape a sari.

That reminds me! Its that time of the year again. There are discount sales everywhere and the attraction is too much. I must walk down MG Road and atleast window shop for a sari!
