Difficulty of staying with parents - Part 1

It's not easy to get back to staying with one's parents. No, not at all easy. Coz, they've not changed but you've changed! I realize that daily these days as I decided to stay with them for sometime during this pregnancy.

I'm looking at Appa and Amma with new eyes now. After all, having stayed away from them for many years after my marriage, I'd forgotten how difficult they can get. Sorry Ma, sorry Pa, I know you will never read this blog, but that's the way I feel.

Amma is fine, but she nags. And memories of my childhood rush everytime it happens. I can remember my school days when all the time it was "Sit and study", "Have you done your homework?", "Did you finish studying?" japam going on. I think I developed a sort of dislike for books because of the constant nagging. I even wonder how I passed all those exams and that too till I was 23 years old! Sigh. These days though, she's nagging me about "have you eaten?", "did you switch off the gas?", "did you go to the temple?" and so on. Amma, please! I'm old enough to take care of myself. Why, I am a mom myself! That too for a seven year old and now i'm going to be mom again! I can handle my life ma!

Appa is another story. Actually many stories (more on that later). Appa, after retirement, has become a sort of a mother hen, actually an irritating mother hen. With mom having diabetes, BP, etc., her stamina is low and Appa is the one who takes care of a lot of things around the house. Be it water, electricity, watering plants, sometimes even the kitchen.

Like how he takes care of the washing machine, I mean he's incharge of washing clothes. He's the boss of the washing machine. He decides when it has to be switched on, how many times it has to be switched on - no matter if its swtiched on for more than twice or thrice a day. And for just the two of them and my brother so far, I never understood why the machine has to go on so many times in a day. And no matter how many clothes are in the machine, the water level has to be low, very low. Doesn't matter if the clothes aren't getting washed/rinsed well. And if by chance I have switched on the machine, I get to hear a big lecture on how it has to be done. Sigh again! Appa, I've handled washing machines and its not such a big deal as you make it out to be!!
Somebody please explain to them!
