A girl means its your responsibility

This conversation started when my mom wished that I would have a girl this time. "There are already two boys in the house. A girl would be nice now." I would love a girl too. While its a bigger responsibility to ensure the safety of a girl, according to me, its nice to go shopping for one. The sheer variety of clothes available for a little girl is mind boggling and they are all so cute! I did dress up Anish as a girl when he was about 2 years old and still had long hair, but a real baby girl would be exciting! As she grows up, I imagine the sort of fights we will have, the shopping trips we will make, the giggles...she would also be a big support. That's what girls are for. I argue and fight with my mom all the time, but I love her a lot!

Anyway I have no clue because my gynaecologist will not reveal and I just can't make out during scans. :-( I had a bit of fun using this though - 'Guess the sex of your baby' and the Chinese gender chart. According to both I should be having a girl. Still almost 5 months to go...

But the real reason why I write this is coz my son turned up his nose when he heard my mom. He called me into the room and said, "Ma, if its a girl, you take care ok? I won't come near her." I was amused but curious and asked him what was the reason. "Girls are always crying. I hate them. And I don't know how to handle girls, better you handle them. And make sure you have a separate bed and you don't put her in my bed!" Wow! That was something. I found this so interesting that I didn't feel like letting go of the topic so soon.

So I said, "What if its a boy?"
Pat came the reply, "If its a boy, I will take care. I will play with him, make him smile and also teach him to be naughty"
"Why naughty?" I asked
"So that we can trouble you a lot! Ha ha ha!"
(Oh no! Not a boy!)
Me - "But a girl will tie rakhi to you Anish. You like that isn't it?"
Anish - "Yes, that will be nice. But boys are better any day. But you can always tie a rakhi to me, it doesn't matter who ties!"
Me- "No Anish, its a sister who ties a rakhi, not your mother"
Anish - "Its ok Ma. I don't have any problem if you tie the rakhi. So if its a girl you take care ok and if its a boy, don't worry, I will take very good care. I will be a good brother to a boy"

Sigh! Its just a matter of another 8-10 years till he continues to dislike girls I know. And once he is in his teens, girls will be all that he dreams of probably...
