Fight over Kanda Poha and Vada-pav in Mumbai
As I read this funny news on Rediff. I thought about the snacks that are popular here in Bangalore. Top most is of course the Masala Dosa. I can list a number of places where real yummy dosas are served - CTR, Sahyadri, Adiga's, Janardhana are top of mind in Malleswaram. While Shesh Mahal and Kaycees are good on Church Street. Shesh Mahal's 'bonda soup' is something special and our office usually lands up there in the evenings.
But forget hotels, I get nostalgic when I think of my grandma's kodubale, murukku/chakli, kaarasheve, bajji, nippat, uddina vada, aambode, usli and what not which she made regularly with a lot of patience. In those days, we hardly made breakfast as mom was rushing to office at 7.30 am and we had school at 8.00 am. So the evening snack was something to look forward to...hungry after school I loved the stuff paati made. A combination of typical Karnataka and Tamil Nadu fare. Till the time mom retired from office, she didn't bother too much in the kitchen and we kids would wonder what would happen to our evening snacks once paati was no more...But amma has managed pretty well and the grand children are happy. Guess it's in the blood :-)
