We are all one - are we?

Was reading this article"We are all outsiders". The North-South divide will take a long time to vanish. Consider this incident at home (I'm a Tam-Brahm married to a Gujju). My son, Anish, speaks Tamil more fluently than Gujarati. Reason, he stays with my parents after school and has better rapport with them than with my M-I-L. Anyways, every time he speaks to me, what comes naturally is Tamil and my bitter half hates it. Bitter half, (BH) henceforth, insists Anish should speak Gujarati and it causes the child heart burn. He becomes tongue tied or simply talks in English in order to avoid long lectures from BH. Sigh! BH doesn't like anything to do with anything South Indian except for the woman he married. Sigh again!

Another recent incident was the movie 'Quick Gun Murugan'. We went for the movie as other movies weren't really for kids. And got a earful at the end of the movie for such a bad choice and also heard that my choice of movies was pathetic, etc. We argued and I told myself that I will not watch another movie with BH.

There was an article recently that Aryan/Dravidian thing is a myth. But who cares? A 'North Indian' will always think of himself as a superior race. "Bade bade shehron mein aisi chotti chotti baatein hoti rehti hain"...
