Trip to Silver Oak Farms, Nandi hills

We celebrated Anish's birthday at his favorite place, Silver Oak Farms, situated at the foot of Nandi Hills, Bangalore.

The farm is run by the very affable Mr. and Mrs. Khanna and is just the sort of place to go to when you want to have a picnic but want a neat place to have home made food. Its also great for children who just want to run around and is safe even as they explore nature around them.

The Khannas have four dogs including two lovely Alsatians, Micky and Minnie and Anish loves them like they are his own. I love animals but never had a pet. My best friend P's dog Sippy was the only one I saw from close quarters. So, its a bit of a surprise to me when I see Anish getting along with the dogs and getting them to follow his instructions.
Mrs. Khanna takes a lot of effort to prepare some exotic continental dishes. Dinner is a continental sit down and we had the pleasure of having coleslaw, pasta, a yummy caramel custard and an apple salad. Lunch is very much Indian while breakfast is both Indian and continental. People come there just for lunch after giving Mr. Khanna advance notice.
Visiting the hills is worth it after the rains. The steps to Nandi Hills are just a few metres from the farm gate. And one can work up a good sweat trekking the hill after breakfast and run down to grab lunch.
The joy on Anish's face on seeing the farm was priceless (it was a birthday surprise). On the whole, it was worth the effort and a great stress reliever.
