Onion, potato, tomato at Rs.30 per kilo

For the 4th consecutive week, prices of staple veggies like potato, onion and tomato have been at Rs.30/- (min) per kilo. Wondering why it is so high! As far as I remember, there have been no transport strikes, yet in the open market, prices are not below Rs.30/- per kilo. Overall, I am now spending around Rs.300/- for a week's stock of veggies as against Rs.150/- or so for the same quantity.
Am lucky I earn but I wonder what is happening in the house of the poor man? What is he eating? Maybe I will actually meet a few people falling in the BPL category and post their views...
