Disturbed by the Mumbai terror attacks
I've been wanting to write about this one for some time now but just wasn't able to clearly articulate my feelings. But as days pass and as the rhetoric on News channels slows down, I have many questions to ask, to no one in particular but the questions nag me.
1) How come our security is so lax? Why didn't anyone spot these guys when they were sailing, landing, walking towards their destinations? Mumbai is bustling with people at all times of the day, how come no one raised an alarm till the actual killings started?
2) How come all those commandos, policemen, security forces that worked on this attack not have right equipment? I mean, even after knowing that the terrorists were carrying AK47s how come they were ill equipped to fight? Where are the monies allocated to improving our Defence going?
3) Terror attacks have been happening frequently since the 1993 Mumbai blasts. What have our leaders done to stop them? How come we take things for granted and just let time pass without taking action?
4) How come Dawood Ibrahim is walking a free man where ever he is now? How come no one ever caught him or stopped his flourishing business in all these years? How many are involved in enhancing his business? Why haven't they been caught for supporting him?
5) If the Taj or the Oberoi were not involved in the attack and instead if it had happened in a Shree Sagar or Shanti Sagar type of venue, would so much attention be given by news channels? Did the incident get the coverage because of the high profile people being at the above mentioned venues? If poor people, who keep dying in scores every other day, were attacked like this, would we all give it this much importance?
6) How come News channels showed the operation in great detail even when they knew that terrrorists across the world could also see what was happening? What sort of reporting is that?
7) How can we ordinary people protect ourselves from such incidents? Do our lives have any value at all in the larger scheme of things or are we just statistics?
8) And how come there are politicians who are still getting 1000 security people to guard them? Are their lives so valuable? If yes, what have they done for us, the commoners who elected them?
